Pre-Owned & Unworn Cartier Watches
It was in 1847 when Louis-François Cartier founded Cartier, that he established the foundation which his grandsons Louis, Pierre and Jacques would later build upon and turn into a global success. Though Cartier’s son Alfred also took on the reigns of the business during his lifetime, it wasn’t until Louis, Pierre and Jacques’ involvement that the brand reached the level of excellence Cartier is famed for today.
The three grandsons, driven by passion and ambition for the brand, opened a store in a prestigious hub of Paris, France which attracted famous figures from across the world. Spurred by their desire to grow, brothers Pierre and Louis voyaged to Russia in 1904 where they were met with inspiration for their new creations. These new designs attracted the Russian imperial family and aristocracy who found them enchanting.
The English aristocracy followed soon after in 1909 when Cartier opened their New Bond Street store. Through the appeal of their London store they managed to cultivate ties with fascinating Indian Princes who were likewise enchanted by Cartier’s expertise and unique style. In 1911 Cartier opened their first office in India, marking the beginning of Cartier’s relationship with Indian influence. The likes of the Maharaja of Patiala and the Maharajah of Nawanagar entrusted Cartier with some of the country’s rich heritage of gemstones, ordered to be reset in jewellry for them with Cartier’s twist of modern style. The New York branch which opened in 1909 and attracted a clientele of stars from Broadway, silent movies and later Hollywood stars cemented their reputation.
A landmark moment for Cartier was in 1904 when Louis Cartier designed the company’s first wristwatch for his aviator friend Alberto Santos-Dumont to use whilst flying. This model became known as the famous Cartier Santos. Though the Tank - first designed in 1917 with the bracelet evoking the base of a military tank vehicle - has been at the forefront of the brand as its most recognizable watch, Cartier have created a myriad of other styles and shapes. For instance, the Tonneau, Tortue, Baignoire, Pasha and Ballon Bleu. Even the iconic Santos and Tank models have evolved into many different versions such as the Tank Anglaise.
As the Prince of Wales, future King Edward VII put it in the 19th century Cartier has been and remains to this day “jeweller to kings, king of jewllers”. Throughout the years they have retained the perfect balance of modernity yet timelessness, elegance and tradition, making them the perfect staple to brighten up any outfit.
