Though established fairly late in comparison to other leading high-end watch brands, Franck Muller’s ability to garnish the company’s reputation with the title, “Master of Complications”, tells of the company’s expertise in the field of Haute Horlogerie. Managing to achieve a level of status which took most other watch company’s a century or more to complete. The company was founded by Italian-Swiss watchmaker Franck Muller and Armenian watchcase manufacturer Vartan Sirmakes in 1991, after the latter persuaded Muller to expand his humble “small volume production” into a global enterprise.

Before their legendary partnership, Muller had a reputation of his own. Graduating from the Geneva School of Watching Making after 4 years, his expertise mechanical skills in restoring watches was rewarded with an influx of international customers from the likes of watch collectors and auction houses. Following this success, Muller began manufacturing his own unique timepieces and signing them with his name. His first wristwatches were released in 1983 and were successfully received for their complicated movement. To cater to the demand for these unique watches, Muller has released an exclusive watch every year since 1983, known as an annual “World Premiere”.

More than creating unique designs and complications, Muller has had an appreciation for, and understanding of, the importance of the Tourbillon creation. Given his inclination to create unique watches, when Muller incorporated the Tourbillon into his wristwatches he did so in an ingenious way: for the first time the Tourbillon could be seen from the front of the watch on the dial, protected behind a glass. Franck Muller went on to create different Grand Complications on this model, each proving popular, and reinforcing the brands luxury reputation.

Franck Muller has its headquarters in Genthod, a countryside just north of Geneva, where Muller first produced his watches in 1983. The ‘factory’, is in fact a beautiful mansion named Watchland, where Franck Muller watches find their inspiration from the breath-taking, unique scenery. Here the designs and production of the watches fittingly take place.
