Anyone who knows about Chopard will agree that when you hear the name it evokes a sense of class, elegance and style - and for due reason. It is a brand that comes with a rich history of passionate owners who have prided themselves on constantly evolving and improving their high-end timepieces and jewellry.
It was founded in 1860 in the village of Sonvilier, Switzerland by Louis-Ulysse Chopard when he opened his watchmaking workshop. Louis-Ulysse’s son Paul Louis Chopard, and grandson Paul André Chopard, both continued his legacy when they inherited the family business, with the former cleverly redirecting the Chopard headquarters to Geneva, the capital of watchmaking and the center for commercial sales. However, since neither of Paul André Chopard’s two sons wanted to take over the company he had to find a buyer.
Thus in 1963 he sold the Chopard company to Karl Scheufele who still runs the business to this day with his wife Karin and two children Caroline and Karl-Friedrich. Under the Scheufele family Chopard has thrived. Caroline is in charge of the ladies’ collection and jewelry and Karl-Friedrich controls the gents’ collection and oversees the Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier, Switzerland. Though both children are the co-presidents, Karin and Karl are still active within the company.
Despite diverging the power from the Chopard’s to the Scheufele’s, the brand has always been a family business at its core, like us here at Watch Collectors, and with the security that promises it has delivered on its guarantees for excellence when producing its pieces of quality and style.
Chopard is one of the most publicized watch and jewellry brands today thanks to its popularity amongst the stars. Without a doubt Chopard watches and jewellry grace the red carpet countless times each year, adorning the bodies of those a-list stars with great taste.
Though Chopard exudes style it is absolutely not short of quality, with each of its timepieces intricately manufactured to the highest standard in Switzerland, the capital of Haute Horlogerie.
