Pre-owned, excellent condition Extremely Rare Rolex Submariner reference 1680, Qaboos Sultan of Oman, 18k Yellow Gold gents wristwatch from 1973. The rare distinctive blue dial has developed a patina over the years. This dial is coined the 'nipple dial' by watch collectors, due to the protruding Gold applied hour markers, which have also developed a creamy patina. The dial features a date display in an aperature at 3 o'clock, housed in an 18k Yellow Gold 40mm case, with an 18k Yellow Gold bezel and blue insert, winder, Oyster bracelet and deployant clasp, sapphire crystal glass and automatic movement.
This dial is one of the rarest iterations of the Rolex reference 1680. Featuring Sultan Qaboos' signature in gold, which is amongst the most sought after colours for collectors of Rolex timepieces from the Middle East.
The 1680 reference typically features the word 'Submariner' on the dial, but you will note it's absence on this specially commissioned Qaboos dial. Due to the special nature of the Omani commissioned dials, the serial number of these limited watches - which is always located between the lugs at six o'clock - was also featured inside their case back. However this particular example does not feature the serial number engraved inside the caseback, meaning that whilst this Qaboos dial was 'born' on a reference 1680, it was not 'born' on this particular 1680 case which it has now been paired with. Nonetheless this case's serial number (starting 358XXXX) and production year (1973) is aligned with the production date of other examples of the 1680 Qaboos dial which have surfaced in auctions previously: see Christie's example here with serial starting 356XXXX.
This watch has a serial starting with: 358XXXX and was produced in 1973. The watch comes with our Watch Collectors Certificate of Authenticity, Box & 24 Months Warranty.
This watch has been checked against technical records to guarantee authenticity and clean history.
